Coat Closet News

Image result for kids coats

Our closet held more than 50 jacket/hat/mitten “sets” at the beginning of the cold weather season. Thanks to all who contributed. Now it’s time to replenish our supply, to keep local growing kids warm.

Please consider donating jackets (we can wash and repair), and consider shopping at garage sales, resale shops, donation centers (like the Salvation Army stores), or your own closets to help us have coats on hand for cold kids.

The most needed sizes are children’s 8-16, youth and adult sizes. “Z-M Cougar” wear welcomed. There is also a high demand for waterproof gloves for elementary students.

The Closet is located on the lower level “hallway” and items can be left there.

Thank you,
Mary Goplen and Deb Wilkinson

Goodhue County Christmas project

Grab a giving ornament today!

It’s time once again for us to help with the Goodhue County Christmas project. This year we have the names of only 3 families that are in need of our help. Toys are provided by the Marines Toys for Tots program in Red Wing. We are asked to provide food and clothing for these families.

Please take an ornament (or 2) from the tree in the back of the sanctuary. Wrap the clothing items and attach the ornament to the package. Bring the wrapped clothing and donated food to the church office by Sunday, December 9th.

Be sure to sign your name on the sheets provided.

We also appreciate cash donations to buy additional food for the families. Thank your for sharing!

March is Food Share Month

One in 10 Minnesotans or more than 500,000 state resident experience food insecurity on a regular basis.  Food insecurity is not knowing where your next meal is coming from.  Food share month is a campaign to make people more aware of the need for healthy food and dollars to buy the food.

Our congregation has extended a challenge to Lands Lutheran Congregation!  Which congregation can gather the most food and the most money during the month of March.

The challenge will begin March 1 and end March 22.  Each pound of food will count as one point and each dollar will count as one point.  Just remember, the food shelf can purchase more food from Channel 1 food bank than we can, with each dollar.

The prize for the winner at the end of the month will be an ICE CREAM SOCIAL hosted by the losing congregation on April 12.

So give as much as you can!  If you want to write a check, make it out to United Redeemer with food shelf in the memo line.  One check will be given at the end.

Let’s do this so we can win and enjoy the victory and the ice cream!!!

The big winners will be the people who depend on the food shelf.

This a project of the Social Ministry team.  If you have questions, contact a member of the team.
