Goodhue County Christmas project

Grab a giving ornament today!

It’s time once again for us to help with the Goodhue County Christmas project. This year we have the names of only 3 families that are in need of our help. Toys are provided by the Marines Toys for Tots program in Red Wing. We are asked to provide food and clothing for these families.

Please take an ornament (or 2) from the tree in the back of the sanctuary. Wrap the clothing items and attach the ornament to the package. Bring the wrapped clothing and donated food to the church office by Sunday, December 9th.

Be sure to sign your name on the sheets provided.

We also appreciate cash donations to buy additional food for the families. Thank your for sharing!

March is Food Share Month

One in 10 Minnesotans or more than 500,000 state resident experience food insecurity on a regular basis.  Food insecurity is not knowing where your next meal is coming from.  Food share month is a campaign to make people more aware of the need for healthy food and dollars to buy the food.

Our congregation has extended a challenge to Lands Lutheran Congregation!  Which congregation can gather the most food and the most money during the month of March.

The challenge will begin March 1 and end March 22.  Each pound of food will count as one point and each dollar will count as one point.  Just remember, the food shelf can purchase more food from Channel 1 food bank than we can, with each dollar.

The prize for the winner at the end of the month will be an ICE CREAM SOCIAL hosted by the losing congregation on April 12.

So give as much as you can!  If you want to write a check, make it out to United Redeemer with food shelf in the memo line.  One check will be given at the end.

Let’s do this so we can win and enjoy the victory and the ice cream!!!

The big winners will be the people who depend on the food shelf.

This a project of the Social Ministry team.  If you have questions, contact a member of the team.

Dear Partners in Ministry

On behalf of Bishop Delzer, we invite you to participate in the First Annual “Bishop’s 5K: Run/Walk to Alleviate Hunger.” Across Southeastern Minnesota and throughout our state, thousands of people wonder when their next meal will come.

Who is struggling with hunger?

  • 1 in 10 Minnesotans run out of food resources before the end of the month
  • 35% of households seeking food assistance have at least one employed adult
  • The food insecurity rate in Minnesota is 11.4%
  • 1 in 6 Minnesota children are at risk for hunger
  • 100,000 people are assisted each year through programs from Channel One
  • 40% of the members of households served by Channel One are under the age of 18

We can make a difference! Move Together to “Finish Hunger.” As a healthy leader, Bishop Delzer is passionate about faith, fitness and ensuring enough food for all.

The Bishop’s 5K is a 3.1 mile run or 1 mile walk open to the first 250 participants. The event will take place on September 20th, 9am at Soldier’s Field in Rochester MN.

Together, we can all alleviate hunger! Move Together: Finish Hunger!

Let us run the race with perseverance,
Bishop Delzer

Social Ministry Gift Card Drive

Our URLC Social Ministry Team’s Gift Card Drive Continues!

Our office & pastors often have people come in who are in need of food, gas, diapers, etc. on an emergency basis.  The team would like to gather gift cards from local businesses (Hub, Casey’s, Kwik Trip, Alco, Target, etc.) so that we can give immediate assistance as needed in some of these cases.  If you have a gift card you can spare please drop it by our office, or in the offering plate Sunday.

Women’s Shelter & Food Shelf Fundraiser Success

Our Sunday, May 4th church fundraiser was a terrific success!  All of the collected items were delivered on Monday, May 5th.  Many items were also given to the Zumbrota Area Food Shelf, including bedding and hygiene items.  Our thanks to ALL who donated including our WELCA Quilting Group, Main Street Trading, and Dr. Christensen & Mary Birmingham of Midwest Dental.

God Bless You All,
