WELCA News January 2019

I am always amazed at how fast the days, weeks and months fly by. It has been a month since the Holiday Festival. Even though the History Center didn’t hold the home tour and the weather was so threatening—there was good attendance. If you noticed several new members were helping in the kitchen and fellowship hall. It seems like there was lots of energy and joy in the room. Lots of laughing. Deb Bradt used a new website to inform all women how they could sign up to help. It worked very well. The new menu was very well received. All Lefse was sold and most everyone went home with some holiday baked goods. A big thank you to everyone. The money we raised will be put to good use!

So now the new year is here. Back to the grind stone! The year planning process starts, for the board, in January.
JoAnn Ring has been a much valued, respected and needed member of the board for many years. She has sadly decided it is time for her to resign from the board. We will miss her greatly but wish her well. She will continue as circle leader and quilting leader. Many-many thanks for all her work with WELCA.

So here goes—another year for surprises!! Leah Wichmann Hinz, WELCA President.

WELCA News-December 2018

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR. Soon it will be 2019. It is our hope for peace and love in our world.

On December 2 we will hold the annual WELCA thank offering at each service. This tradition goes back to the 1800’s. Offerings are given in gratitude for the blessings we all receive. Money received is used to support the many life-changing ministries of Women of the ELCA. Thank you for your offering this year. (There are no envelopes for this offerings.)

Have a blessed holiday season,
Leah Wichmann Hinz, President of WELCA

No guilting in Nov. or Dec.
And no QUILTING either!!

What is better than decorating a Christmas cookie?

Not much – especially if you get to eat it yourself or give it to a friend!
At this year’s Holiday Luncheon and Bake Sale, scheduled for Saturday, December 5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., something new is being planned for the children attending. After finishing their lunch (soup, chili, and sandwiches), kids will have the opportunity to decorate a cookie for their dessert!

AND – Pastor Marggi will be on hand with a furry puppet or two! Who knows what stories they will tell? But one thing for sure, it will be fun!
Look and listen for where to go after you are finished with your lunch. Be sure to bring your parents or grandparents with you to the lunch, too! (They might also want to buy some lefse, holiday treats, or crafts!)

Café-a magazine for young adult women

logo

is an online magazine for young adult women who identify as Lutheran or not.

Café is a free, monthly, and on-line magazine for young adult women. It explores topics that are relevant to women and how faith relates to these issues.

Readers and writers of Café include pastors, seminary and college students, and other young adult women who use Café as a Bible study resource individually or with a group. Many also use it to learn more about what the Lutheran church has to say about certain issues and to start discussions with friends or classmates. Although many women in their 20s and 30s contribute in every issue, Café can be used and shared by women of all ages.

Café, the monthly publication and podcast, are made possible through regular offerings donated by women from over 7,000 active Women of the ELCA units in congregations of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). To continue this ministry to lay and clergy women, your donation is greatly appreciated. Donate now.
